Born and raised in Kerens, Texas, A.L. "Buster" Atkeisson has been married to his high school sweetheart, Brenda, for 57 years. He has two sons: David (wife Leah) and Brad (wife Michelle), three granddaughters: Katie (husband Luke), Lauren, and McKenzie, and his grandson, Cole.
Buster's lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and community development has made a lasting impact across Navarro County and beyond. A 1966 graduate of Kerens High School, he continued his education at Navarro College, earning his associate degree in 1968. He went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in 1970 and served his country for nine years in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Atkeisson dedicated 48 years to the banking industry, retiring as Executive Vice President of Powell State Bank.
Alongside his professional career, he has been deeply engaged in civic leadership. He served 18 years on the Kerens ISD School Board (including 10 years as President helping guide educational progress in his community.
His extensive record of service includes leadership roles as past chairman of the Kerens Library Board, Kerens Chamber of Commerce, Kerens Kiwanis Club, Navarro Regional Hospital Board, and the Navarro COunty Ambulatory Board. He has also contributed to numerous additional boards and committees, reflecting a broad commitment to community advancement.
Mr. Atkeisson continues to serve as a member of the Navarro Health Services Foundation Board, where he has contributed for over 30 years, and has served for 15 years on the Navarro College Board of Trustees. He is currently the Chairman of the Navarro Central Appraisal District, President of Kerens Economic Development, and has been actively involved with Kerens Friends of Youth and the Navarro County Expo for more than 40 years. In 2023, he was honored as the recipient of the Navarro County Youth Expo Dedication of the Show. His service extends to his faith community, where he serves as a Deacon and Trustee at First Baptist Church in Kerens.
In recognition of his many contributions, Mr. Atkeisson was named Kerens Citizen of the Year in 1978 and received the Fannie Mae Vernon Award in 2005. His legacy is defined by decades of leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of his community.
